Highlight of your visit to Meetjesland is the area full of creeks. Beautiful like a puzzle piece shoved into Zeelandic Flanders. This is where you'll find the loveliest creeks south of the Westerschelde.
In Sint-Laureins or ‘Sente’ you wonder past five small parishes that are hidden in an amazing landscape. The area near Sint-Laureins is a very idyllic landscape with kilometres-long creeks. The most famous is the Boerekreek. These creeks are remnants of floods during the Middle Ages.
Assenede has impressive creeks. These large ponds are more concealed in the extensive polder landscape. A bird of prey, the Western Marsh Harrier, circles around the creeks like an elegant king looking for food.
At the intersection of three provinces, East Flanders, West Flanders and Zeeland, you'll find the namesake of a larger city on Walcheren: Middelburg-in-Vlaanderen. Founded by lord of the manor Pieter Bladelin. Because it's surrounded by the beautiful 'Meulekreek' it offers an exciting nature walk.
