Description:
  • The village of Boekhoute had a fishing port until 1952.
  • Thanks to the "De Braakman" sea channel, which connected the village with the Westerschelde, fishing flourished and grew.
  • The sea channel silted up and as a result Boekhoute's port was cut off from the sea.
  • Visitor's Centre 'Boekhoute, fishing village without a port' and the old fishing sloop BOU 8 keep the the rich fishing past alive.
